Heuriger wedding in Rust, Burgenland
This wedding took place in Rust, a small town in Burgenland known for its historic center and the large number of storks nesting on its rooftops.
The couple brought together Austrian and Chinese backgrounds. While the bride's family was unable to travel from China, references to her heritage appeared throughout the day in the décor and details chosen for the celebration.
After the civil ceremony at the Standesamt, we walked through the streets of Rust for portraits before joining the guests at a local Heuriger for dinner and speeches. The town's narrow lanes, old facades, inner courtyards, and stork nests became part of the visual backdrop of the day.
During dinner, while friends and family were giving toasts, a stork landed on the roof of a neighboring building overlooking the courtyard. In a town where storks are part of the landscape, it was a fitting scene to witness.
The photographs from this wedding move between the architecture of Rust, the gathering at the Heuriger, and the details that connected two family histories across different parts of the world.
